Executive Director Job Posting


Full-time Executive Director position available at the Southeastern Ohio Center for Independent Living (SOCIL).  SOCIL is a non-profit, non-residential consumer-controlled organization that serves a wide range of people with disabilities throughout Fairfield, Hocking and Athens Counties.  

 

Under the direction of the Governing Board, the Executive Director is responsible for the administration and coordination of all CIL activities in Fairfield and Hocking County.  This includes policy, budget and program development; leadership and oversight of CIL legislative and advocacy efforts; membership development; resource development and public relations; representation of the CIL before the public; and management of staff and activities.  He/she communicates and coordinates activities with IL partner organizations and with the Ohio legislature regarding Independent Living needs of Ohio residents with disabilities.

 

Qualifications:  

  • Substantial experience interacting with individuals with disabilities and commitment to the Independent Living philosophy and advocacy for the rights of persons with disabilities;
  • Two years administrative experience preferred directly related to the job responsibilities;
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, QuickBooks, and overall computer literacy;
  • Detail oriented and organized with strong follow up skills;
  • Demonstrated history of leadership, and strong communication skills;  Ability to travel in Southeastern/Central Ohio area.

 

Salary range: Dependent upon experience

Assisting Individuals with Disabilities and Their Families

SOCIL believes that people with disabilities have the right to choices and opportunities in society that support and maximize their empowerment, inclusion, leadership, independence, and full participation in community life. Centers for Independent Living are unique in that we serve the consumers of our community specifically related to their needs. To that end, through our consumer assistance program SOCIL is considering requests to secure technology devices or software, PPE, or transportation assistance. SOCIL will approve the applications based on need and available resources. Applicants will be required to submit all requested documentation. Incomplete applications will not be considered, no exceptions.


 

"Per the Americans with Disabilities Act, qualified individuals must have a disability or be the care-giver of a person with a disability which impacts a major life area. The condition must be permanent. If the condition is in remission it must impact a major life area when active. Those with a history of drug use must be in recovery to qualify and that history of drug use must currently impact a major life area."

Southeastern Ohio Center for Independent Living (SOCIL) is committed to maximize adaptive sports/recreation opportunities for individuals with disabilities. SOCIL has funds to assist individuals with registration costs to participate in Adaptive Sports/Recreation Opportunities.

The Southeastern Ohio Center for Independent Living is a non-profit that works for the rights and concerns of people living with disabilities on local, state, regional, and national levels. The Independent Living Specialist supports other persons of disability and their families toward greater self-determination and self-advocacy. They determine consumer eligibility as well as develop and assist consumers to fulfill the goals identified in the Independent Living plan.

Opportunity to give back by becoming a SOCIL Board Member

 

Currently SOCIL is accepting applications from individuals with an interest and ability to:


 

  • Advocate for people with disabilities;
  • Advance the rights of people with disabilities;
  • Provide help with disability issues, public relations, and fundraising;
  • Promote the independent living philosophy.

 

The Board of Directors is comprised of up to ten individuals who are appointed for three- year terms and serve on a voluntary basis.

 

Members are people with disabilities, or parents of people with disabilities, or dedicated community members that are eligible.

 

They meet once per month during the day for about two hours.

 

Funds are available to assist with transportation costs.
