Assistive Technology of Ohio has a statewide Computer Refurbish and Redistribution Program, that helps people with disabilities obtain their own computer. Computers are part of the business and educational landscape of our society. Knowledge of how to use a computer, the Internet and e-mail are becoming fundamental, basic skills necessary to compete in today’s working and educational world. However, people with disabilities are often the most likely not to be able to afford a computer.Any Ohioan with a disability and a need for a computer is eligible for the program. The computer will come with internet capability, roomy hard drives and run with speedy processors. The only cost to the individual is $50 to cover shipping fees. www.atohio.org
ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY for VEHICLES
People with disabilities who add assistive technology to their vehicles (hand controls, scooter lift, wheelchair lift, etc.) may not be charged sales tax on the equipment or installation. LOW INTEREST LOANS TO PURCHASE ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

The following programs have been created to assist households whose incomes fall below 150 percent of the federal poverty level:
- Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) and Emergency HEAP (E-HEAP)
- Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP)
- Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP)
- Lifeline

INCLUSIVE HOME DESIGN ACT
Contact your legislative and ask them to support HR 2353. It states that all single-family homes and town houses constructed with federal funds be “visitable” with at least one wheelchair-accessible entrance and access to at least one wheelchair-accessible bathroom.

The Ohio Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) is designed to teach leadership and advocacy skills to students with disabilities. Students have the opportunity to learn from and interact with legislators, successful adults with disabilities, and experienced advocates. They also have a unique opportunity to interact with peers who have a range of disabilities, both physical and mental.
